ULTRASOUND FILLER ASSESSMENT
ADVANCED ULTRASOUND IMAGING.
GREATER PRECISION & SAFETY.
Not sure where your previous filler is located? Concerned about filler migration, lumps, or unwanted results? At Ethereal Glow Aesthetics in Mountain View, CA, we use advanced high-frequency ultrasound technology to visualize beneath the skin in real time. This allows us to better assess existing dermal filler, identify important vascular structures, and support more precise, personalized aesthetic treatment planning.
ABOUT ULTRASOUND FILLER ASSESSMENT
WHAT IT IS
Ultrasound Filler Assessment is a noninvasive evaluation that uses high-frequency ultrasound imaging to visualize existing dermal filler and surrounding anatomical structures beneath the skin. This advanced technology provides additional information about filler location, depth, and distribution while helping identify nearby blood vessels to support aesthetic treatment planning and reduces the risks of complications.
HOW IT WORKS
A specialized handheld ultrasound device produces real-time images of the tissues beneath your skin. This allows us to visualize certain existing filler deposits, assess their approximate location and depth, and identify relevant vascular anatomy before planning additional aesthetic treatments. Ultrasound may be particularly helpful when filler migration is suspected, previous treatments are unclear, or more precise targeting is desired for filler dissolving.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Your appointment begins with a personalized consultation to discuss your concerns, previous filler treatments, and aesthetic goals. A handheld ultrasound probe is gently placed over the area of concern to visualize the underlying tissues. The assessment is noninvasive, generally comfortable, and requires no downtime. Based on your assessment and clinical circumstances, we will discuss appropriate next steps, which may include further evaluation, monitoring, or filler dissolving when indicated.
ULTRASOUND-GUIDED FILLER DISSOLVING
High-frequency ultrasound allows us to visualize beneath the skin in real time to help locate existing hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, evaluate its location and depth, and map important blood vessels before treatment. This can be especially helpful for suspected filler migration, lumps or irregularities, unknown filler location, or filler that has been difficult to dissolve.
When appropriate, ultrasound guidance may be used during hyaluronidase (Hylenex) injections to more precisely target areas of unwanted HA filler while providing an additional layer of safety. Ultrasound-guided filler dissolving can help reduce unnecessary treatment of surrounding areas and allows for a more targeted approach than dissolving based on surface appearance alone.
At Ethereal Glow Aesthetics in Mountain View, CA, ultrasound is incorporated when clinically appropriate to support precise, individualized filler assessment and dissolving.
FAQs
-
Ultrasound may be beneficial for patients concerned about filler migration, lumps, bumps, irregularities, unknown filler location, or previous unsuccessful dissolving. It may also be helpful when additional anatomical visualization is appropriate before future dermal filler treatments.
-
Yes. Ultrasound can sometimes visualize dermal filler that was injected months or even years earlier. However, visibility depends on the filler material, location, surrounding tissue, and imaging conditions.
-
Ultrasound may help locate filler deposits outside their expected placement area, providing additional information when migration is suspected. Clinical evaluation and treatment history remain important.
-
Not all filler dissolving procedures require ultrasound. However, it may be recommended when filler location is uncertain, migration is suspected, or previous dissolving attempts have been unsuccessful.
-
Different fillers may have characteristic ultrasound appearances, but ultrasound alone cannot reliably confirm the exact brand or composition of every filler.
-
No. The assessment is noninvasive and does not require injections. A small amount of ultrasound gel is applied to the skin, and a handheld probe is gently moved over the treatment area.
